Welcome to King's Hill Press

King's Hill Press is definitely a work in progress. For now we can tell you we are beginning with our first title, Precious Objects.

Precious Objects  was originally a print on demand book that was included in the exhibit at the Cleveland Museum of Art, DIY:Photographers & Books. But when a book has a designer and 172 collaborators and an exhibition sponsor it seems a shame not to go ahead and offset print it. Offset printing yields a much more affordable book and, done right, can show detail that digital printing can not yet achieve at a much lower per book cost.  This is a book about values and where we printed it made a difference to us in this case. With the help of a friend I have know since high school and a printer I met during my first career transition, we were able to print Precious Objects right here in Cleveland OHIO.

There is no substitute for being there when the book is on press. While a state of the art offset press is very tightly controlled the pressman is still making decisions about how the final product will look. To be able to voice your concerns as each test sheet is run makes the printer part of the creative team. You can almost feel the leather in TomH's dad's shoe. There are a few nonagenarians in the book and their delicate skin is well, delicate. I could not be happier.

Nope. That was a lie when I wrote it. What could me happier? The book was purchased by the Cleveland Public Library. The place I  used to visit by taking a rapid downtown. When Kennedy was president.

The book is available for sale. Cost is $17.95.

If you are in Cleveland,  you can buy it at Loganberry Books. Loganberry also carries The Album Project my first book. If you bought both from this wonderful independent book store, they would probably throw in a bookmark or at least a big smile.  Their address is: 13015 Larchmere Blvd.  *  Shaker Hts., Ohio 44120

Shaker Historical Society     16740 South Park Boulevard * Shaker Hts. OH 44120

Visible Voice Books     1023 Kenilworth Cleveland OH (right in the heart of hip Tremont)

MOCA Cleveland 11400 Euclid Avenue Cleveland OH This is a fabulous new building in the heart of University Circle. It is also where the Jazz Temple stood in 1962-3 and I first heard the music that has propelled my life. So come buy the book and think about standing where the 18 year old Tony Williams was accompanying Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and Ron Carter.......

Firelands Association for the Visual Arts (FAVA) in Oberlin, OH has the book in their gift shop. A great place to see all kinds of art in their gallery.

If you are in central Ohio, Precious Objects is in the book store at the Zanesville Museum of Art.

You can buy it directly from us either by mailing a check or using PayPal. Please remember to let us know how you would like the book inscribed. Also, if you are in Ohio, please add $1.40 sales tax. I do not charge for shipping.

Lastly, for those of you that like to use the big on-line retailers, Precious Objects is available on-line both at Amazon and Barnes and Noble. BN puts it in their rare books section. Beats me why it is a rare book (I have plenty of them). Both of these guys charge a bit for shipping. But they have them and are great people too. The Amazon site is particularly nice and I know there are advantages of shopping with the "big" guys. Who knows? Maybe this is my chance for my fifteen minutes.

As an aside, some people have asked how I would prefer they would buy the books. My preference is the retailers that support the work get the business. In general, not just for this, that starts with the local bookstores. So, shop the the way that is most comfortable for you.
